Guide Bar and Saw Chain Installation and Removal

1

Use T-Wrench to open air filter cover latch. Disconnect spark plug lead.

2

Unlock chain brake (A).

3

Remove sprocket guard nut (B) and remove sprocket guard cover (C).

4

Remove guide bar (D) and saw chain (E) as necessary.

Note: See “Maintenance”
section for Guide Bar,
Sprocket, and Setting the
Saw Chain for
maintenance procedures.

5

Mount guide bar (D) on stud (F) and slide toward clutch drum sprocket (G) to make saw chain (E) installation easier. Install saw chain around clutch drum sprocket and guide bar as shown, with saw chain cutters on top of guide bar facing forward.

Do not start or operate saw if brake band is not in place on clutch drum. Make sure you check chain brake operation after sprocket guard is replaced. Do not use saw if chain brake does not function properly. Improper sprocket guard assembly can result in serious injury, and will cause severe saw damage if unit is started.

6

Install sprocket guard cover (C) over guide bar studs (F). Make sure chain tension adjuster pin (H) fits into the guide bar adjuster hole (J), and brake band in sprocket guard cover must be positioned around clutch drum sprocket (G).

7

Align brake connector (K) on sprocket guard cover (C) to groove on the side of the front hand guard (A). Install and tighten sprocket guard nut (B), finger tight.

8

Adjust saw chain tension, as instructed in “Adjust Chain Tension”.
